The Love Envelope is a private space for two adults who chose each other. It is built on consent: you pick your partner, your partner accepts, and either of you can end it. These standards exist for the moments when that trust is abused.
Not allowed
- Harassment, threats, or violence
- Stalking or intimidation
- Impersonation or using someone else's account
- Illegal content of any kind
- Sexual exploitation
- Any sexual content involving minors, which is removed and reported to the relevant authorities
- Non-consensual intimate content
- Use by anyone under 18
Your controls
- Block your partner at any time: no new letters, invitations, requests, communication, or notifications from them. Letters they already sealed move out of your normal views into Settings → Blocked Users, never open automatically, and open later only if you choose to.
- Clear an eligible visible archived letter from your own view, permanently, without deleting your partner's copy and without notifying anyone. Clearing removes the item from your view only: it does not destroy shared content or count as approval of mutual deletion.
- Report a relationship, an opened letter, or a profile photo, with a category, from inside the app. For an invitation or anything else, email safety@theloveenvelope.net directly. You'll get a confirmation that we received it.
What happens when you report
By submitting a report, you authorize designated Love Envelope safety personnel to review this content and related account information as necessary to investigate and respond. Access is restricted and logged.
- Reports are triaged by severity; credible threats, minors, and illegal content are escalated urgently.
- Staff can see only what the report covers, never your other letters. Access ends when the case closes, except evidence we must preserve.
- Outcomes can include content removal, restrictions, suspension, or a ban, and, where the law requires or a life is at risk, reports to authorities.
- We keep reported-content evidence for one year after a case closes (longer under legal holds or ongoing investigations), then delete it.
What we don't do
We do not routinely scan or read private letters. The safety system is report-driven: your letters stay private unless you or your partner put a specific item in front of us, or one of the narrow legal/safety exceptions in our Terms applies.
If you are in danger
The Love Envelope is not an emergency service, and our safety and support email is not monitored continuously. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. In the United States, you may call or text 988 or use the 988 Lifeline chat. For intimate-partner violence, use a current, independently verified national or local resource such as the National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1-800-799-7233 or thehotline.org. If you believe your device is being monitored, consider using a safer device.
