A question about your account or your words?

Find support

These Terms are an agreement between you and Pioneer Digital Ventures LLC, an Arizona limited liability company that operates The Love Envelope ("Love Envelope," "we").

1. Eligibility and your account

  • You must be 18 or older. You confirm this at account creation, and you represent it by using the service. We may suspend or remove an account we discover belongs to a minor.
  • One account per person; keep your credentials secure; you are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us immediately about suspected compromise (support@theloveenvelope.net).
  • You may be paired with one partner at a time. Pairing requires the other person's acceptance.

2. The service

The Love Envelope lets two paired partners write each other letters with a scheduled opening time. Mutual letters require both partners to participate in opening. Surprises are one-sided letters that remain invisible to the recipient until the server unlocks them, then remain sealed until that recipient opens them. The date alone never opens a letter. The emotional design is the point: sealing is a commitment, and opening is meant to be earned by time.

Links to other services

Some date ideas, and places saved on plans, link to Google Maps or other services. Those services are provided by third parties under their own terms and privacy policies. Place details may be incomplete or change; confirm them with the venue before booking or travelling.

3. Your content and our license

  • You own your letters. You grant Pioneer Digital Ventures LLC a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, transmit, secure, back up, and display your content solely to operate the service: that is, to deliver your letters to your one intended recipient under the conditions you set, and as described in §8 (safety) and §9 (support exceptions). This license exists only to run the service for you and your partner, lasts only as long as we hold the content to provide the service, and grants us no right to use your content for advertising, no right to sell it, and no right to train models on it.
  • Your partner's rights in what you send them: once a letter opens, your partner may read it in the app, keep it in their archive, and download a copy (§7). A downloaded copy leaves Love Envelope's protection, and we are not responsible for what its holder does with it.
  • You represent that you have the right to send what you send.

4. Sealing and permanence: the core promise

Sealing counts as completed delivery. When you seal a letter, a delayed-access copy is delivered to your partner immediately; only its readability waits for the opening conditions.

Once sealed, a letter is delivered to the intended recipient and cannot ordinarily be retracted through the app, including after a breakup, block, or account deletion. Love Envelope may restrict, preserve, or remove content in limited safety, legal, account-security, or technical circumstances.

In particular, once sealed you cannot ordinarily retract, edit, replace, reread, or export the letter through normal app features until it opens; the recipient cannot read it before its conditions are met; and a breakup, block, or account deletion does not retract it. You will see this stated, and must confirm it, each time you seal.

Opening follows the letter's original conditions. At or after a mutual letter's scheduled time, both original participants must have active accounts, be present in the same opening session, and each place a key. Both required letters must be sealed under the current schedule. There are no advance keys or automatic mutual opening. If the required letters were incomplete at the scheduled time, a new opening schedule is needed. The mutual opening window lasts seven days from the scheduled time. If it expires unopened, the letter stays sealed in the Archive and later opening requires both original participants' separate approvals.

A surprise has a future scheduled unlock time. After the server unlocks it, only its intended recipient may open it; the sender cannot open it first. Its seven-day window starts when it unlocks. If it moves to the Archive unopened, the recipient may still open it there without a two-person ceremony. Making a letter readable is separate from each person reading it and never deletes its content.

5. Deleting letters

  • Mutual deletion: either partner may request deletion of a letter; the other must approve within 7 days. Silence, decline, or withdrawal deletes nothing. Completed mutual deletion immediately removes both participants' access and schedules permanent removal of the letter content. Physical removal is completed by background processing, subject to applicable evidence holds and the retention schedule; it is not the same event as immediate access revocation. A surprise that is still hidden has no recipient-visible deletion request.
  • Clear from my view: you may irreversibly remove an eligible visible archived item from your own view and access. This never deletes your partner's copy or the shared content, and there is no user-facing restore window.
  • Never-sealed drafts are yours to edit or delete, and expire 30 days after a breakup or account deletion.
  • There is no unilateral in-app deletion of a sealed letter. That is the product.

6. Blocking, breakups, and account deletion

  • Blocking stops new letters, invitations, relationship requests, communication, and notifications from the blocked person. It does not delete previously sealed letters: they move out of your normal views into Settings → Blocked Users → [User] → Letters, never open automatically, and you may open them when eligible, keep them hidden, report them, or ask support to review them. Unblocking returns eligible letters to the normal experience.
  • Breakups end the pairing but do not retract sealed letters (§4).
  • Account deletion works exactly as described in the Privacy Policy §7: immediate tombstoning, a 30-day recovery window, and finalization with background removal of the applicable account data and never-sealed drafts. Letters you already delivered remain with your partner, attributed to "Deleted account." If both partners' accounts are permanently deleted, associated letters become inaccessible and are deleted after one further year (holds excepted).
  • Death: verified death does not create a new access path to sealed content. Estate and fiduciary requests are handled under our privacy-rights procedure, which generally can provide a deceased user's account records but does not open sealed letters.

7. Exports and downloads

Privacy-data exports (your account and processing records) and letter downloads (opened letters you still have permission to access) are separate features. The current letter-download feature includes neither editable drafts nor still-sealed letters, including your own. Downloads require device-owner authentication where available and are logged. Photo links used to prepare a download expire after 60 seconds; a copy you deliberately save does not expire and is no longer protected by Love Envelope's access controls or deletion workflows. Letter files are not sent as email attachments. Statutory access requests are handled under the privacy-rights procedure.

8. Acceptable use and safety

You may not use the service for: harassment; threats or violence; stalking; impersonation; unauthorized access to another's account; illegal content of any kind; sexual exploitation; any sexual content involving minors (reported to the relevant authorities); non-consensual intimate content; malware or interference with the service; or use by anyone under 18.

You can report a relationship, an opened letter, or a profile photo in the app, and reach safety@theloveenvelope.net directly. By submitting a report, you authorize designated safety personnel to review the reported content and related account information as necessary to investigate and respond; access is restricted and logged. We may remove content and restrict, suspend, or terminate accounts for violations, and we preserve evidence where the law or an investigation requires. Our published Safety Standards (Safety) are part of these Terms.

9. Support exceptions to permanence

Support may restrict, preserve, or remove a sealed letter only for defined exceptional circumstances: verified account compromise; unauthorized sealing; a serious or credible safety threat; illegal content; exploitation involving a minor; a court order or legal requirement; a serious product defect; a duplicate, corrupted, or technically misdirected letter; or serious abuse where accessibility creates a substantial safety risk. Regret, embarrassment, a breakup, or a change of mind do not ordinarily qualify. Every intervention is identity-verified where appropriate, documented, restricted, and logged.

10. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts for violations of §1 or §8, for legal reasons, or for account-security reasons. Where practical and not barred by law or a safety concern, we will tell you the reason, and you may contest a suspension or termination by writing to support@theloveenvelope.net, which we will review. Suspension or termination does not by itself delete sealed letters (§4); content handling follows §§5 and 6, §9, and the retention schedule. You may stop using the service or delete your account at any time.

11. Service changes and availability

The service is provided as described in-app, and we may add, change, or discontinue features, giving notice where a change is material. No change to the service will retroactively weaken the permanence commitment in §4 for letters you have already sealed. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.

12. Service availability, liability and responsibility for misuse

We work to provide a reliable service, but do not promise uninterrupted availability or that the service will be free of errors or data loss. Except for the commitments expressly made in these Terms and any rights or guarantees that applicable law requires, the service is provided "as is" and "as available."

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Pioneer Digital Ventures LLC is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses arising from use of the service, including lost profits or business opportunities. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, or any liability or consumer right that applicable law does not permit us to exclude or limit. These limitations do not change our stated privacy and security commitments or the letter-retention rules in section 4.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to reimburse Pioneer Digital Ventures LLC for reasonable losses and costs arising from a third-party claim caused by your deliberate unlawful misuse of the service or your infringement of another person's intellectual property rights. This obligation does not apply to the extent the claim results from our own breach of these Terms, unlawful conduct or negligence. We will notify you of such a claim and will not agree to a settlement that creates an obligation for you without your consent.

13. Governing law, disputes and the iOS app licence

For disputes between you and Pioneer Digital Ventures LLC concerning these service Terms, Arizona law applies, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the parties submit to the courts in Arizona. This does not remove any mandatory consumer protections or right to use another court that applicable law gives you. You may contact legal@theloveenvelope.net about a dispute; doing so is not a condition that prevents you from exercising your legal rights. These Terms do not require arbitration or waive participation in a class action.

Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement governs the licence to the iOS application. These Terms also govern the account and letter service provided by Pioneer Digital Ventures LLC. Nothing in these Terms overrides a mandatory requirement of Apple's standard agreement or rights provided by applicable law. If the two agreements conflict on the application licence itself, Apple's standard agreement governs that licence.

14. Changes to these Terms

We will post changes with a new version and effective date and, for material changes, ask for fresh in-app acceptance. The version you accepted is recorded with your confirmations.
